If you wish to use English fluently and accurately, it is important to know how words combine in phrases and sentences. Here are some important word combinations connected with meetings.


A. SUGGESTION

To make a suggestion                                A good suggestion
put forward – invite- welcome- reject        constructive –helpful-ridiculous –useful


He made a suggestion that we (should) reduce costs by 10%

B. DECISION

To make a decision                                      A unanimous
Come to- reach- reconsider – arrive at        joint- final- wise- fair –hasty- poor-quick


We made a decision to…
We reached a decision about….
It was a decision that was difficult to understand.


C. PLAN
        
To present a plan                                              A detailed plan
Approve-reject- carry out- drop-implement       ingenious-contingency- short- term-

The plan succeeded.
The plan failed
Everything went according to plan.


D. OBJECTIVE

To achieve an objective                                  A major objective
Meet- set-state- agree to- formulate             primary- secondary- main-realistic




E. AGENDA

To draw up an agenda
Put together-draft- put something on – circulate

There are three items on the agenda.
This subject is very high on my agenda.

F. OPINION

To have an opinion                                          A personal opinion
Hold –express- give- ask for – agree with      expert- honest- strong- objective
